Mr Joel Stein

Mr Joel Stein is an experienced General and Colorectal Surgeon based in Perth, Western Australia. His career has spanned South Africa, the United Kingdom and Australia, providing him with broad experience in the assessment and management of general surgical and complex colorectal conditions.
Mr Stein completed his medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg before undertaking his internship at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. After completing a period of service in rural South Africa, he relocated to the United Kingdom, where he spent two years gaining further clinical and surgical experience across London and South East England.
Upon moving to Australia, Mr Stein continued his postgraduate career across hospitals in Queensland and New South Wales before settling in Perth, where he completed his surgical training. He subsequently worked as a Consultant General Surgeon before undertaking further specialist development in Colorectal Surgery through post-fellowship training at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
Professional Development
Following his post-fellowship training, Mr Stein held Consultant positions at Royal Perth and Fiona Stanley Hospital, further developing his clinical expertise. He now combines his private practice with his public appointment at St John of God Midland Hospital, where he serves as a General Surgeon.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Stein has been involved in education relating to trauma management and acute surgical care. He contributes to the development of medical students and surgical trainees through teaching, and to the education and assessment of surgeons through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Mr Stein specialises in general and colorectal surgery, with special interests in hernia surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction and acute general surgical conditions. He performs regular lists at St John of God Midland Private and The Mount Private Hospital.
